Race Master SLX01

Visible speed! The first glance at the racemaster SLX01 speaks volumes; it is fast, technically clever, thought out to the smallest detail. The lines flow harmoniously, supple and to the point, cast out of one perfectly continuous form; an example of tangible beauty that you want to touch and own. The different materials carbon and aluminum follow a very deliberate and logical union. The full carbon straightedge 048 SL fork and the exceptionally unique stream post 73.5 seat post have been designed, fine-tuned and integrated with the SLX frame system to assure optimum performance.

Since this frame is technically thought through to the finest detail it is both fast and really, really beautiful.  It is the epitome of engineering and design craftsmanship. The conscious combination of carbon and aluminum leads to incomparable rigidity with unbelievable comfort. The integrated Stream post 73.5 seat post, through its aerodynamic teardrop cross section and its intelligent angle lock clamping system is always perfectly aerodynamically aligned and provides the maximum degree of height adjustability. Only one turn of the system is required to loosen, then adjust and finally refasten the seat post.

Award-winning frame design:

reddot design award
Meeting the highest sporting standards and impressing the design experts who decide the Design Awards for 2009: the racemaster SLX01 has won the category “Best of Best" of the coveted Red Dot Design Award which every two years designates the most outstanding products in diverse product categories. We are proud and happy to have received this honour which not only indicates that we pay the utmost attention to the functionality, but that we also care deeply about the beauty of each bicycle. iF Design Award 2009
We are particularly pleased that BMC is represented in the circle of the selected products especially with its reference products racemaster SLX01 and trailfox TF01 – a reward for outstanding design combined with functionality.
In this domain, integrated design is primarily rewarded–from the draft to the finished product, BMC manufactures the complete cycle autonomously and is in charge of every single procedure. Each frame emerges from a developing background and is considered as a considerable technological innovation.
The iF product design award is one of the world’s oldest, best-known design competitions. The international jury of experts bestowed an iF product design award on 802 competition entries out of 2,808 entries this year. All winners will receive an iF seal of design excellence, which remains valid for the entire product lifecycle. The 2009 installment of the iF product design award took place for the 55th time. Every BMC bike has a common denominator: the technologies that lie behind our striking but technically logical frames.

Here are quick summaries of the key technologies for the SLX01:

  • Throughout, we avoid using the traditional carbon optic. Using only carefully aligned unidirectional fibres makes for even more accurately defined rigidity distribution.
  • The Carbon Nano Tube Composite developed by Easton achieves unprecedented material values by the admixture of microscopically small carbon tubes.
  • Aerodynamically effective: the specially developed seat tube with a wing-shaped cross-section improves air resistance at a decisive point.
  • BMC strives to extend a frame’s surface lines and load bearing profiles beyond its different structural elements. This provides for a homogenous distribution of forces and harmonious design clarity.
  • The Bonded Skeleton Concept distributes the forces at load bearing junctures and ensures an optimal bond between the tubes by providing a large adhesive surface.
  • With its patented locking system, the stream post represents the epitome of aerodynamic seat tube integration.
Available in frameset only.

Frame - All new frame concept. Deliberate and sensible combination of carbon and alloy (alloy = stiffness/carbon = comfort & handling)

  • - BSC carbon/alloy frame concept
  • - carbon arc for unsurpassed comfort, alloy for unlimited speed and stiffness
  • - system integration with angle lock clamping system and stream post 73.5 carbon seat post
  • - internal shifter and brake cable routing
  • - carbon tubes strengthened by using CNT technology; alloy tubes in 7005 series specification, utilizing advanced Hydroforming process
  • - front Derailleur assembly = Braze-on type (Fitting torque = 5Nm)
  • - frame weight = 1400gr (Size 56cm w/out Fork)
  • - replaceable alloy dropout hanger, bolted with 2x M3 screws

Fork - BMC straightedge 048 SL carbon with carbon steerer tube

  • - BMC carbon – alloy Fork
  • - carbon fork legs & Alloy dropouts and crown. (50mm)
  • - 1-1/8“ Alloy-steer tube
  • - cork offset = 43mm
  • - cork weight = 560gr

NOTE - all framesets will be delivered with one 25mm stainless steel front brake-fitting bolt. For assembly reasons it is mandatory to use this bolt.

Seatpost Streampost 73.5 – the tear-dropped cross section of the integrated seat post that is continued along the airfoil down tube is always perfectly and aerodynamically adjusted.  This is made possible through the intelligent angle lock clamping system allowing for the maximum degree of adjustability.  BMC has applied to patent the Streampost 73.5 with its current status being: patent pending.

  • - seatpost length = 350mm
  • - seatpost offset = 20mm
  • - weight = 220gr
  • - upper & lower Saddle assembly in alloy; fixing system allows using saddles with carbon rails (9mm Rails)
  • - preliminary Seatpost adjustment fairly simple (refer to Streampost 73.5 assembly guidelines)

NOTE Assembly / Maintenance - the all new Streampost 73.5 features and utilizes high precision manufacturing. In order to have smooth Seat height adjustment at any time, we do not recommend of using any kind of grease or carbon assembly paste - this includes Tacx or similar products available in the market. Insert the Streampost DRY. The Excenter mechanism (N°3), must be greased properly. If maintenance is required, simply take off the fitting bolt, disassemble the excenter and grease it. (Anti-seize/Copper grease or Graphite grease)

bottom bracket as the core of BMC’s frame stiffness and the BMC specific tube shapes – the racemaster SLX 01 also uses the maximum width of the bottom bracket where it joins up with the down tube, seat tube and chain stays.  The SLX01 tube shapes which are radically accentuated and designed span the full width of the bottom bracket giving the final product its unique BMC identity.

BSC bonded skeleton concept – BMC’s brand defining technical and functional advancement. By splitting the top tube before its joint with the seat tube, we obtain an ideal distribution of forces. The bonded skeleton comprises the seat tube area distributing the forces across a larger surface allowing for a very stiff and perfectly safe bonding point. The seat stays are attached to the seat tube along the same principles.

continuous Edge, race in style (continuous lines) - sensually complete, with aerodynamic and uninterrupted contoured lines from the top tube all across the head tube, down tube and the chain stays to the outer edge of the rear drop outs.  The subtle detail of the continuous edged design pronounces the suggested nimbleness of the SLX 01. It also displays the love and attention paid to detail.

carbon arc - CNT carbon arc for comfort and handling; the cushioning element that allows for comfortable but also amazingly safe and controlled riding on this enormously responsive racing machine. The carbon arc hits the spot in all the right places by arching all the way from the fork across the head tube, along the top tube and the seat stays.

aluminium trident - for unlimited speed. With the racemaster frame we take a radical new course. We have made a conscious decision to go against the partially irrational trend of full carbon frames. We strongly believe that an aluminum bottom bracket and aluminum tubing for all tubes that originate at the bottom bracket like a trident serve to provide uncompromising stiffness and efficient transmission of forces. By employing a 7005 Aluminum alloy, hydro-formed and triple butted, we can create an optimally thin and lightweight form. This, together with the strong bottom bracket, gives the Race Master its superior power transmission values.
